Cynthia L. Hernandez, Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Success
Dr. Cynthia L. Hernandez serves as Vice President for Student Success at Texas State University, where she leads a comprehensive division of more than 500 staff across 14 departments and three auxiliary areas. Her portfolio includes housing and residential life, dining services, the Dean of Students Office, counseling and health services, campus recreation, disability services, career services, the student union, student involvement and engagement, academic enhancement services, the Student Learning Assistance Center, new student and family experiences, first-generation initiatives, the bookstore, ID Card Services, and the division’s assessment, business operations, marketing and communications, and technology services.
With more than 30 years of higher education experience, Dr. Hernandez advances student success and learning through student-centered co-curricular programs, services, and initiatives. She also communicates the impact and value of student success work. She is an active member of professional organizations, including NASPA—Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education—where she served on the Board of Directors and was recently recognized as a 2025 NASPA Foundation Pillar of the Profession.
Prior to joining Texas State University, Dr. Hernandez spent 15 years in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs at Texas A&M University, serving as an assistant vice president, associate vice president, and adjunct professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science, a master’s degree in educational administration with an emphasis in student affairs administration, and a doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University.
