When Texas State University student Camren Hinton stepped onto the court at the NIRSA Region IV Regional Basketball Tournament, he was making history as the youngest official selected for this year's competition. At just 18, Hinton officiated both a men's quarterfinal and a women's semifinal matchup, gaining firsthand experience at one of the region's most competitive collegiate recreation events.
NIRSA Region IV brings together professional and student members from across the south-central United States, uniting large public institutions and smaller schools in a network dedicated to advancing campus recreation through collaboration, innovation, and shared best practices. The regional tournament is part of the NIRSA Championship Series, a platform that allows students to grow their skills as athletes, officials, and leaders.

For Hinton, participating as an official was both rewarding and humbling.
"Being selected to officiate the NIRSA tournament was truly awesome, and I'm really grateful I had the opportunity to represent Texas State and our Intramural program," he said. "It was a lot, and being the youngest one there was definitely humbling, but it was really fun and I learned a lot. I thank my bosses Kelly and Elise for believing in me, and God for letting this all happen."
