Career Services launches new program to strengthen campuswide career support

Career Champion Pilot Group

The Career Champion Network is one way the Division of Student Success is eliminating barriers by equipping faculty and staff to connect students with Career Services.

Texas State University’s Career Services hosted a pilot training for its new Career Champion Network in late January, advancing the Division of Student Success’ mission to provide high-quality resources and experiences that help students thrive. Eighteen faculty and staff from across campus participated in the two-hour session, which featured networking, professional headshots, an office tour, and hands-on training led by Director Ray Rogers and Career Exploration Coordinator Madyson Flint.

“Career conversations happen everywhere, and students regularly seek advice from multiple sources like their professor, academic advisor or mentor,” said Flint. “When students are surrounded by a network of people who can encourage their career journey and confidently connect them to Career Services, we expand access and make career support more equitable.”

Rooted in a “career everywhere” philosophy, the Career Champion Network is one way the Division of Student Success is eliminating barriers and increasing access to career support by equipping faculty and staff to connect students with Career Services. By helping students navigate challenges and connect classroom learning to future opportunities, Career Champions directly support the division’s focus on academic achievement, career development, and lifelong learning.

Participants from both academic and student service areas reflected on the program’s value, noting how the training offered clarity on how to connect students with resources for career success. “Becoming a Career Champion helped me see how faculty can support students by connecting them with Career Services resources I didn’t know about,” said Allie Thomas, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Health & Human Performance. “I now feel like we’re all one team supporting student success.”

Beginning in Fall 2026, the program will expand to offer regular training and professional development, further aligning with the university’s Hopes & Aspirations High vision to elevate student success and improve student success metrics. As more faculty and staff join the program, Career Services and the Division of Student Success will strengthen a campuswide culture where every student has a supportive network guiding them toward post-graduation success.
